My 2 year blog birthday is coming up next month...yes, I've been doing this for quite a while-back when there was only a handful of teaching blogs popping up out there. Now, they're everywhere and SOOOO many people who are so good at it....maybe you all will be able to give me some advice:)
Sometimes it's discouraging when you see a new blog pop up and within a few short months they already have as many followers as it took me to build up over 2 years!! LOL! But, I tell myself-these people have a lot more time than I do-(although most teachers don't have a whole lot of spare time to begin with.) Blogging is something I don't think I could ever give up now-I'm hooked! It's my hobby and I LOVE to do it!!!
I started thinking about this post when I read Deedee's post of advice to new bloggers HERE. We all know that Deedee is the rockstar of ALL bloggers. Seriously, when it comes to blogging she is THE best!! And, no matter who you are-if you ask her a question-she will get back to you within the hour....how does she do that?!?! And of course, when it comes to TPT she is in the top 10 all time sellers!!! So, basically she is totally AMAZING!!;) In her post she said that she puts in about 40 hours a week toward her blog/TPT. I'm LUCKY if I put in 1/2 of that...and basically my blog/TPT time happens late at night when my 3 boys are in bed:) Here they are:
Brody-5 Grady-3 Finn 3 1/2 months
I also have a supportive husband who will take my two older boys outside on Sunday for most of the day while I work on planning for school, creating new materials and devote time to my blog...in between cooing with my 3 month old Finny, changing diapers and feedings:)....that is-when he's not hunting :) It's goose season right now-so, I'm pretty much on my own:)
So, back to how do you juggle it all??? Here's my plan....maybe it will help a LITTLE bit:) (Maybe not-Ha!)
I will of course, write the normal day to day stuff on it-but, I also want to put atleast ONE small goal a day for myself to stick to and complete. Maybe it's "do a blog post", or "complete 5 pages in my Feb. homework pack", or "complete one center for my valentine centers pack":) Hopefully this will cut down on the time when I sit at my computer and feel so overwhelmed and jump from one project to the next, to the next and never really get anything accomplished!;) BUT, for one day during the week-it will say "Family Night". This night will be ipad free, leapster free, spongebob and TV free, blog and computer free!!! This night will be sit at the table TOGETHER and talk about the day TOGETHER. It will be spending time together and playing games and reading books together ! Of course we do these things on a day to day basis...but I think it's important to completely and totally devote your attention and time to eachother sometimes and I think that "family night" will help with that :)
So, this is my idea to help me juggle. What do you think?? I think it will help me focus and get things done AND help me remember what it truly important.
Are you a full time Mommy, Full time blogger/TPTer and full time teacher????? How do you do it???? (Better than me-I'm sure:) Ha!! I'd love to hear your tips and tricks and I'm sure there are SOOO many others out there that would too:)
Please link up and share!!!! OR just leave a comment revealing your secrets:)
I am just a mommy/teacher/blog reader (hehe) and I struggle to balance it all! You girls who keep up blogs/tpt are just AMAZING to me! Sorry I have no advice; just encouragement. Thank you for all you do! You are so talented and because of blogs/tpt I really believe education is soaring. I don't know how I did it before :) Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteOMGoodness, Sara! You are just so sweet!! Another thing I've noticed is that my comments have become few and far between these days. I think a lot of it is due to Pinterest and so many blogs popping up--things are just so easy for people to find these days that they don't leave the nice comments like they used to. You have NO idea how much I appreciate your kind words:) Thanks so much for stopping by and for taking the time to leave your sweetest comment ever <3
DeleteI try to involve my kids in what I'm doing as much as possible. I make natural skincare products in my home, blog and try to keep the house running smoothly like every other mom. They don't enjoy chores, but when it doesn't seem like it when I ask them to help with my business they love helping out, whether it's labeling, putting lids on, opening new ingredient boxes or sampling new scents, they truly enjoy it and try to help me come up with names.
ReplyDeleteI posted the other day about how it's been really hard for me to juggle and I'm not even a mom yet. I will be in 2 months and I can't even fathom what will happen to my blog. So I may be coming to you for advice =)
ReplyDeleteAll I have been telling myself is baby is first priority. My blog followers can live without daily posts from me. =)

DeleteIt is all I can do balance a 8 year old and 4 month old with school. I say don't feel guilty about blogging on an irregular basis- playing with your beautiful boys comes first. Then we will really appreciate the blogs whenever you do have time. Thank you! Holly Rose
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rose!! You're right! My boys do come first!;)It's so hard for me to let go of things though! I worry WAY too much if everything is not done-sometimes I just need a reminder to take a deep breath and relax;)

Deletegirl, don't sell yourself short! you are an awesome blogger and i'm sure you do a great job as a mommy. :)i just started blogging back in the fall on the encouragement of alessia albanese of missalbanese.class.blgospot.com. i am just now getting my blog design done and it's in the final production stages so my blog is very generic at this point. for me, blogging is more of like a journal for me. i don't make stuff for tpt i just buy it. :) and i like to promote products that others make that work really well in my classroom on my blog and just tell stories in general of the happenings of my kindergarten class and my own three kiddos. my own children are 17, 15 and 10 and believe me you will blink and yours will be teenagers before you know it. ENJOY YOUR FAMILY NOW SO YOU WON'T LOOK BACK AND REGRET IT!!! your blog is great and you are doing a fab job!!!i have to admit though that i'm still COMPLETELY BUMMED THAT I DIDN'T WIN THE SCENTOS HOLDER
ReplyDelete:( have a great day! leigh ann krazy4K.blogspot.com
Thanks so much for your nice comment, Leigh Ann!! You crack me up about the Scentos giveaway!! LOL!
DeleteAnd, yes, you're right!!! I can't believe my Brody is already FIVE!!!!!!! The time really has gone by in a flash and I know that it will continue to....scares the crap out of me!!;)
Katie - it seems to me that you have things pretty well in hand! I don't think I could have handled 3 kids and a full time job - plus a blog!! I'm a fan! Renee
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog and I can totally relate! I have 2 little ones of my own (4 year old girl and 2 year old boy) and they keep me VERY busy! My husband comes home late from work most nights so I am on my own too. But, like you, I can't give up this world. It's SO.MUCH.FUN! I just love all the friends I have met.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Your boys are adorable!

Alessia!! What a surprise!! Thanks so much for linking up!! My boys are in bed now...so, I'm gonna hop on over and read about your juggling act:)
DeleteOh Katie, you are an a.m.a.z.i.n.g Mommy/Teacher/Blogger!!! I wish I could be more like those ladies who somehow have found that delicate balance...that's exactly what it is, like being on a tightrope. I constantly feel like I am not doing enough in one area or another!
ReplyDeleteWish I had great advice, but I only have one little guy and I am struggling across the board.
We all adore you!!!
Thanks so much for being so nice, Shannon! It means so much from someone that I admire so much!!;) I know what you mean!!! I'm constantly worrying about something! There's just sooooo much to do and not enough time to do it! I soooo wish my body required NO sleep!!;)
DeleteP.S. You're little Coop is just adorable!!!!
I give you some major credit for being able to do any of this with three little ones, let alone, three little BOYS at home! I have one little boy, who turned 2 in Oct., and boy, oh, boy does he keep me busy on the regular between his tantrums and his imagination. I love every minute of it! However, there are those days, using those loooooong days at school, that I sit down and work on school stuff or blog first and then when I have calmed down from the day or regained some energy, then I play with him. He has become a big helper and will color while I work on school stuff or tell me letters and picture names so that def. helps.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! Makes me feel better that I'm not the only one that is in a constant state of overwhelmed.

OMG!! Absolutely, Ramon!!!! I can't wait to hop over and read all about it!!!!! Thanks so much for linking up!!!! ;)
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI am not a blogger/TPTer or a mom, so my hat is off to you. However, I taught preschool and was the Head teacher for the Infant Toddler room for about 20 years before moving to Kindergarten. Watching working mom's try juggle careers and family just amazed me. The one thing I did notice is that you need to find your balance. It is going to be different for each person. There may be things that for the time being you may have to put on the back burner. don't compare yourself to anyone else because you are amazing in your own way. Just like our kinder kiddos. Treasure each chapter of your life and the memories that you will make.
Katie-- I really love your idea of adding a goal for yourself to your dry erase calendar. I actually have a chart that I am using to help keep me on track. I make sure I chart in time for blogging, relaxing, etc...but I really like your idea of adding a goal here & there too!

I saw a quote on Pinterest that I try to remember:
ReplyDelete“The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel”
-Steve Furtick
That being said, I am always frustrated because I know what I need to do to be as successful as I want to be, but I can't find time to do it all.
I agree!! (and I only have one little one at home) So hats off to you for being AMAZING!
