The first one is an art project that I've been doing for years and it always turns out so cute:)! It is "Zoopal" Indians and Pilgrims! Yep, they are made using those Zoopal plates! Here's what they look like:
Click HERE to get the patterns that I made for this project-if you're interested. (You could paint the plates and it would look even cuter-but I just didn't have the energy for it:) Then, just add google eyes, bingo dauber cheeks and a feather embellishment for the Indian and some glitter for the pilgrim. Easy, Peasy! Here are the plates to look for-(glue the pieces on the back side of the plate)
Here's an emergent reader that I made too;) First, we look for the sight words on each page and highlight them. Then, we read the sentence and the kiddos have to sound the word out and write it on the line. Since they are so involved in writing and finding the words, they get SOOOOO excited about reading it:)! We first did a book like this from Deanna Jump's Scarecrow unit! My kiddos LOVED it soooo much, that I decided to make more of them. Hope your kiddos have fun with it too:) Click on the image below to get a copy of this book!

November is when we do pattern books using the Lucy Calkins writing program. I would much rather send home books to practice than worksheets, so thank you for this! They are so proud when they practice 3 times (read to a Parent, Pet, or Shadow) and come in reading fluently. Thank you for sharing!
