Do you do Math Journals??? I didn't until last week! I've been wanting to implement them since Sept., but with this giant class and trying to get everyone where they need to be(I still have A LOT of work to do-I'm so jealous of all of you who's whole class knows all of their letters!), Math Journals just seemed like ONE MORE THING and honestly, I didn't know if my class could handle it.
Boy, was I WRONG!!!! They absolutely LOVE it!!! And the best part is....it only takes a few minutes!! I have them work on these right before we pack up at the end of the day. It gives them something to do while I'm quickly grading their centers work from the day.
It keeps them busy, gets those little brains thinking and its the perfect chance for your creative and artistic kiddos to shine!! When I say it's time to take out your math journals they all say "Yeeeeessss!";) Here are some pics from my little artists:
They just glue the prompt at the top, illustrate the picture and write the answer if needed. Aren't they Fabulous?!
We use the journals prompts from Deedee Wills!!!! They are PERFECT for my kinder kids and cover exactly what we are working on! Click on the image below to visit Deedee's blog and read about them!!!!
If you're not sure if journals are right for you, she has a freebie you can grab with directions, journal covers and sample prompts. But, really, the best part is-you can grab her monthly journal prompt pack at her TPT store for the bargain price of $2.50!!!!! Can't beat that!!!!! Thanks soooooo much, Deedee!
Here's what our journals look like:
Aren't they adorable?! I used composition notebooks because I've heard they hold up a lot better because the paper is sewn in. You also don't have to worry about the kids pulling and messing with the spiral wire!;)
Run to Deedee's store and check out her November Journal Pack! I know you'll love it!!!!;)
I've been the same way with journals. I want to start them, but there are so many other things that need to be done. Hopefully I can get them going next week..after I have a 3 day weekend to prepare =)

I do math journals and love it. On 50's day we had so many other math things we were doing, but one students said we did not do our math journals today. Too cute.

This is motivating me! I have been wanting to do math journals but have been unsure if I could handle adding one more thing to my day. I'm glad to hear it worked for your kinders to introduce the journals midyear.

We started Math Journals in Nov & my kids love them too! I love how they touch on so many different areas. I use Deedee's & Deanna Jump's prompts. I like the variety that using the two bring. Do it, Meredith!! ;)
