A while back I read a post by Hadar at Miss Kindergarten that I absolutely LOVED!!! It was about controlling the noise level in her classroom.
This is a visual chart for your class to remind them about what their
volume should sound like while in school.
When in the hall, we all have our level 1 voice on!
When we're working with partners, we use our level 2 voice.
We ONLY use our level 5 voice when we're outside at Recess or PE.
Here's the chart that I came up with. It has the numbers to show the levels, but I also thought that colors would help as an added visual. Of course, red means NO talking and it goes all the way up to green...Green means go so they can do ALL the talking, yelling and screaming that they want! (Yes, it bugs me a little bit that the colors are slightly out of order of the spectrum (Roy G. Biv)...but, I just think green needs to be at the top:)
I'm going to glue an arrow onto a clothespin so that I can clip it next to the voice that I want them to have if it is a day when they need a little bit more reminding;)I also made some little signs that I'm going to glue to Popsicle sticks that I can hold up if I need to. The extra visual might help some of them remember....especially at the beginning of the year!;)
(Click on the picture below to get your copy of the signs and the little arrow:)
hahahah! You are so silly! Great minds DO think alike! =) That is so funny I actually giggled out loud when I read your comment! =) I love how you made yours into little signs! That is such a cute idea! =)

THANK YOU!!! you are wonderful! just what i need!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I think the mini signs would make a good necklace for the teacher to wear. That way your hands would be free. I might make 2 sets 1 for me and one for my student teacher helper of the day. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to do this in a movie theme. Thanks so much for sharing!

Hi there Katie!! I am now an official follower!! I have been for a while but am just learning the ins and outs of Blogging!! I have also set up my own Blog page called For The Love of Kindergarten!! Just a little comment, I have an 8 year old baseball player at home who loves MLB!! He flipped over the Albert Pujols pictures!!! We live in FL so I guess I am going to have o come up with a Marlins unit foot Opening Day!!!! You are Awesome!!!! Would love to win your give away!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteI have grabbed your bug noise o meter. I have one question. I use level 0 for no talking, 1 for whisper, 2 for speaking voice and 3 for outside voice. Is there anyway you can revamp the bug one to match those numbers. I know I am asking a great deal especially with the school year underway. If not I totally understand!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
I love all of your sound meter themes. I am going to put the main chart image on my Promethean Board and make a movable icon (like an arrow) that can be moved up and down to clue the kids in. Thank you so much for your generosity!
ReplyDeleteI love these. I just found them and they are perfect for our PBIS and the jungle I have in my room. Thanks for sharing.
