A while back I read a post by Hadar at Miss Kindergarten that I absolutely LOVED!!! It was about controlling the noise level in her classroom. This is a visual chart for your class to remind them about what their volume should sound like while in school.
When in the hall, we all have our level 1 voice on!
When we're working with partners, we use our level 2 voice.
We ONLY use our level 5 voice when we're outside at Recess or PE.
Here's the chart that I came up with. It has the numbers to show the levels, but I also thought that colors would help as an added visual. Of course, red means NO talking and it goes all the way up to green...Green means go so they can do ALL the talking, yelling and screaming that they want! (Yes, it bugs me a little bit that the colors are slightly out of order of the spectrum (Roy G. Biv)...but, I just think green needs to be at the top:)
I also made some little signs that I'm going to glue to Popsicle sticks that I can hold up if I need to. The extra visual might help some of them remember....especially at the beginning of the year!;)
